DQ + Google Sheets

Many operational datasets live in Google Sheets: vendor lists, budget trackers, product catalogs, manual data entry forms. DQ connects to Google Sheets via OAuth and profiles them with the same rigor as a database table.

What You Get

Named range or full sheet profiling. Select a named range to profile a specific table within a larger sheet, or profile the entire first sheet. DQ treats the first row as the header automatically.
All six quality dimensions. Completeness, uniqueness, validity, consistency, and accuracy checks run on every column, with special attention to common spreadsheet artifacts: merged cells detected as blanks, numeric-as-text columns, date serials stored as numbers.
Scheduled refresh. DQ re-reads the sheet on your configured schedule and alerts if quality degrades. Useful for sheets with regular human updates.
Spreadsheet-specific validity checks. DQ detects and flags: numbers stored as text (e.g., "1,234" with comma as thousands separator), Excel date serials (e.g., 44927 instead of 2023-01-01), and trailing/leading whitespace in categorical columns.

How to Connect

In the DQ dashboard, navigate to Datasources → Add New → Google Sheets.
Click Authorize with Google. DQ requests read-only access to Google Sheets (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets.readonly). No write access is requested or granted.
Paste the URL of your Google Sheet (e.g., https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/YOUR_SHEET_ID/edit).
Select the sheet tab and, optionally, a named range to profile.
Click Test Connection to verify DQ can read the sheet.
Click Run Profile. Results appear within 90 seconds for sheets up to 100,000 rows.

For sheets larger than 100,000 rows, DQ samples the first 100,000 rows for the profile. For full profiling of large sheets, export to CSV and use the CSV Upload integration instead.
